Thimphu is the capital and largest city of Bhutan, situated in the western central part of the country.

Thimphu, which was declared the capital in 1961, also serves as the cultural and economic center of Bhutan.

The city is the 6th highest capital in the world by altitude, thus enjoying a dominant agriculture and livestock base. Tourism is another contributor to its economy.
