Alireza Zakani was born in 1965 and graduated in nuclear medicine. He is the head of the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (also called the Iranian Parliament). He has a history of representing the people of Tehran in the seventh, eighth, and ninth terms of the Assembly, and as an elected member of the sixth Tehran City Council, he assumed the responsibility of Tehran mayorship.

Tehran’s importance increased greatly during the Safavid era, but the source of this city’s prosperity and progress dates back to its capital during the reign of Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar.

Tehran is the economic center of Iran and is considered the first industrial region of the country. This city is considered one of the most important tourist centers in Iran and has a set of tourist attractions.

Administratively, Tehran is divided into 22 districts and 122 urban areas and includes the cities of Tajrish and Rey. The city is administered by the Tehran Municipality. The Mayor of Tehran is elected by the Tehran City Council, and this council supervises the performance of the municipality and makes laws for the administration of the city. As a political and administrative center, the most important governmental and judicial institutions of Iran, such as ministries and the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in which Tehran has 30 representatives, are located in the city. The city has two international airports, Imam Khomeini and Mehrabad, which are among the busiest airports in Iran.
