Yaghoub Houshyar, born on September 11, 1977 in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan province of I.R. Iran, is the 58th mayor of Tabriz metropolis. With a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (hydraulic structures) from the University of Tabriz, he has a valuable record of executive and management positions, including: Mayor of districts 5 and 10 of Tabriz Municipality, head of the Holy Shrines' Reconstruction Organization, Mayor of District 18 of Tehran, member of Board of Directors of the Construction Engineering Organization of the East Azerbaijan Province, member of Board of Directors of Official Judicial Experts Association of the East Azarbaijan province, president of Geotechnical Commission of the province.

Located in northwestern Iran, Tabriz serves as the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province. Tabriz, known as the heart of Azarbaijan, is the economic hub of northwestern Iran and the main stop on the corridor between the two continents of Asia and Europe. This has given this modern metropolis a central role in regional, national and international activities.

With about 324 square kilometers of area and approximately 1.8 million population, Tabriz is surrounded by mountains. Owing to its special geography, the cool climate of Tabriz is an enjoyable opportunity for both domestic and international travelers during the summers.
