Ipoh is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Perak and is located on the Kinta River.

Ipoh, as a small town, began to grow rapidly in the 1880s after discovery of mines in the region. It gained municipal status in 1962 and was declared a city in 1988.

The city today hosts the Malaysian headquarters for several foreign multinational companies and corporations and enjoys a booming tourism industry, thanks to colonial architecture and natural attractions.
