Mayor: Rohey Malick Lowe

Rohey Malick Lowe is a Gambian politician who has served as the capital city Banjul's mayor since May 2018 and is the first woman elected to the position. Rohey Malick Lowe was born on 19 December 1971 in Banjul, then known as Bathurst. Her father, Alhagie Malick Lowe, was mayor of Banjul from 1981 to 1983. She attended St Joseph's High School. In 2012, she moved to Europe and studied International relations at the University of Falun in Sweden. Lowe returned to The Gambia in 2017 and was a founding member of the United Democratic Party. She was selected as the UDP candidate for mayor of Banjul and in her campaign spoke of a "twenty two year neglect" of the city that was "in bad shape.

This city is an associate member of AMF.

Banjul officially the City of Banjul, is the capital and fourth largest city of The Gambia. It is the center of the eponymous administrative division which is home to an estimated 400,000 residents, making it The Gambia’s largest and most densely populated metropolitan area. Banjul is on St Mary’s Island (Banjul Island), where the Gambia River enters the Atlantic Ocean.

The population of the city proper is 31,301, with the Greater Banjul Area, which includes the City of Banjul and the Kanifing Municipal Council, at a population of 413,397 (2013 census). The island is connected to the mainland to the west and the rest of the Greater Banjul Area via bridges. There are also ferries linking Banjul to the mainland on the other side of the river. From the 19th century until 24 April 1973, the city was known as Bathurst.
