Call for Nominations: Asian Capitals of 2025

We are excited to announce opening of the nomination for the AMF Asian Capitals of 2025 initiative, an award designed to recognize and honor cities across Asia that lead the way in three key areas: Culture, Environment, and Tourism.

Following our successful initiative in 2024 to name three cities of Shiraz (Iran) as Capital of Environment, Ghobeiri (Lebanon) as Capital of Culture, and Hamedan (Iran) as Capital of Tourism, we invite nominations for cities that exemplify leadership, innovation, and dedication in each of these categories.

Title Categories:

1. Asian Capital of Culture: Celebrating cities that preserve, promote, and celebrate their unique cultural heritage while fostering creativity and artistic expression.

2. Asian Capital of Environment: Honoring cities that lead in sustainability, environmental protection, and innovative green solutions to address the global climate crisis.

3. Asian Capital of Tourism: Recognizing cities that offer exceptional tourism experiences, integrating sustainable tourism practices with outstanding hospitality, cultural offerings, and natural beauty.

Eligibility & Criteria:

The call is open to any city in Asia. Cities can be nominated for one or more categories, depending on their areas of excellence. Each category will have one winning city recognized for their contributions. Cities will be assessed based on distinct criteria for each category:

1. Asian Capital of Culture: 

– Cultural Preservation and Promotion: Efforts to safeguard cultural heritage, arts, and traditions.

– Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity: Initiatives that celebrate cultural diversity and inclusivity, offering a rich variety of experiences to residents and visitors.

– Creative Industries and Events: Support for creative industries and organizing world-class cultural events or festivals.

– Public Engagement: Programs that engage the community in cultural activities, education, and creativity.

2. Asian Capital of Environment: 

– Sustainability Programs: Implementation of green initiatives, including renewable energy, waste management, and conservation projects.

– Biodiversity and Conservation: Efforts to protect ecosystems, wildlife, and natural habitats.

– Climate Action: Initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprints, promoting energy efficiency, and mitigating climate change impacts.

– Public Education and Involvement: Engaging citizens in environmental conservation and awareness.

3. Asian Capital of Tourism: 

– Tourism Infrastructure: Development of sustainable tourism infrastructure, including eco-friendly accommodations and transport.

– Visitor Experience: Creation of unforgettable, culturally rich, and eco-conscious tourism experiences.

– Cultural and Natural Attractions: Promotion of unique cultural and natural landmarks.

– Sustainability in Tourism: Implementing practices that protect local ecosystems and cultures while promoting responsible tourism.

How to Nominate:

Submit your nomination by November 30, 2024 midnight GMT via our online form. Include a Letter of Nomination from the political head of the local or regional government and a detailed description of the city’s accomplishments and relevant supporting materials. You may nominate a city for more than one category, but each submission must address the specific criteria for that category.

 Timeline:

– Nominations Open: October 15, 2024

– Deadline: November 30, 2024

– Winners Announced: During Annual MeetUp event in December  

 Benefits of Winning:

Cities awarded the title of Asian Capital of Culture, Asian Capital of Environment, or Asian Capital of Tourism will gain:

– International recognition for their efforts.

– Enhanced global visibility through media exposure.

– Opportunities to share best practices and engage with other global cities in their field.
